Oh..."Uncle Dave"...

Oh… “Uncle Dave”…
Doesn’t everyone have that uncle that’s too loud, drinks too much, but is the funniest guy you know? Kelly’s uncle, and Mike’s brother, Dave, is hilarious. We flew back East to visit Mike’s grandmother, aunt, uncle and family in Massachusetts but flew into New Hampshire first to visit this comical character known to Kelly as Uncle Dave. Being the awesome guy he is, he got us an amazing deal at an awesome hotel, and we spent a couple days walking around downtown Portsmouth, NH. It was beautiful! The town was having a “buy local” promotion and we felt so good about spending our money in their touristy shops. We ate at a “green” deli-like place, and really enjoyed ourselves. I especially enjoyed the fact that they had a regular trashcan, and a compost trash can-a recycle trash can, and a non-recycle trash can. It was WONDERFUL! Growing up in California, I always thought we were ahead of the “Green” curve…but this place has it going on! (Besides the fact that they “gave" Kelly’s lunch to another customer and we waited far too long for it to show up, they DID give us a card for a free loaf of bread…) Apparently, as Uncle Dave explained, all the restaurants are sending their compost piles to the local farms, where they feed their land, and then turn around and sell the crops back to the restaurants that provided the compost. That right there makes me want to move to Portsmouth and open a restaurant! And if that wasn’t great enough, Uncle Dave’s art studio was just about to open. He was able to secure a room in a nice art gallery and we had the pleasure of seeing it before we left. One day, hopefully before he is a beloved deceased, we will have the opportunity to say, “Crazy Uncle Dave is famous!!!!”
